To tell the borderlands. Concepts and museum narration – Conference in Muzeum Śląskie

To tell the borderlands. Concepts and museum narration

Katowice, Muzeum Śląskie, 16-18 October 2019

The ninetieth anniversary of Muzeum Śląskie in Katowice is a splendid opportunity for discussion on the contemporary museology in the borderland, which we want to contain in the subject of the conference To tell the borderlands. Concepts and museum narration. We understand the term ‘borderland’ to be a wider issue, not only in a geographical, historical or political context but also in a cultural and social one, or even on the borderline of the arts.

Activity in the borderland sphere is a considerable challenge for museums which, in the face of the changing world and expectations of these institutions, try to manage a task of storing, explaining and making the legacy of the past available, and selecting marks of the present time in the most thorough, and if possible, impartial way. There are a lot of definitions and models. The environment and capabilities of the museums and also individual interests of the museologists influence the way museums consider this complex and difficult problem. This topic can be abandoned because of the same circumstances. The crowning achievement of the musuems is museum narration verified by visitors in a form of opinion or recommendation.

We would like to invite you to share your experience, thoughts and knowledge of this issue in Muzeum Śląskie in Katowice on 16-18 October 2019.
