It Started with a Grain… The History of Cultivated Plants

The direct impulse for creating this exhibition was the desire to draw public attention to plants and their history, without which we and our history would be nothing. The heroes of the exhibition are cultivated and useful plants which have not only supplied food for entire nations, but also changed the face of the world, influencing the way we spend our free time, the course of military operations, and the development of industry. The exhibition will also be an opportunity to present the Archeology Department, mainly the Bioarcheology Section, while also helping visitors become familiar with the means and methods which were used to broaden our knowledge of useful plants in the past. An important aspect of the exhibition is the excavated remains of cultivated plants found during the course of archaeological research, including some of the oldest such remains in Poland, discovered in Silesia.
