One of the most fascinating representatives of Polish art brut – Justyna Matysiak – is also the first recipient in Poland of the Grand Prix Insita (2007). This prize, awarded since 1966 at the Triennial of Naïve Art in Bratislava, is one of the most prestigious honours in the world of art brut. Ms. Matysiak’s oeuvre includes drawings made with fine felt-tip pens using transparent ink. The artist is inspired by illustrations in books, from which she draws her graphic motifs. She transforms these illustrations by adding contours of fine, overlapping lines. Her work charms viewers with its tasteful colour palette and interesting forms.
