Budynek łaźni Gwarek (pierwotnie pełniący funkcję maszynowni szybu Gruschka) wybudowany został w 1903 r. w stylu historyzującym z elementami neogotyckimi i neoromańskimi, posiada bogaty wystrój architektoniczny elewacji szczytowych. Po wybudowaniu w 1952 r. nowej maszynowni z maszyną wyciągową, obecny budynek został zaadaptowany na łaźnię tzw. „Gwarek”, która funkcjonowała do lat 90-tych XX wieku. Budynek jest wpisany do gminnej ewidencji zabytków miasta Katowice.
Warsztat wiertaczy jest niewielkim, parterowym obiektem przylegającym do północno-wschodniego narożnika łaźni Gwarek. Budynek powstał w 1910 r. i prawdopodobnie stanowił budynek markowni. W 1923 r po przeniesieniu markowni do łaźni robotniczej zaadaptowano go na obiekt warsztatowy przy maszynowni szybu Gruschka (ob. Gwarek).
W ramach projektu zrewitalizowane obiekty otrzymają nową funkcję muzealno-edukacyjną przy zachowaniu jak największej ilości elementów istniejących decydujących o postindustrialnym charakterze budynku. Budynek łaźni będzie pełnić funkcję magazynu studyjnego eksponatów związanych z historią przemysłu oraz militariami, w tym m.in. maszyny parowej Huty Baildon oraz elektrycznej maszyny wyciągowej KWK Rydułtowy, który będzie dostępny dla zwiedzających. W budynku planuje się także strefę biurową oraz pomieszczenia sanitarne i techniczne. Magazynowanie i prezentacja zbiorów możliwe będą na poziomie przyziemia, piwnicy oraz dwóch dodatkowych poziomach, które stanowić będą projektowane antresole. Ze względu na znaczne gabaryty i ciężary eksponatów w budynku planuje się instalację suwnicy przemysłowej w celach transportowych. Warsztat wiertaczy posłuży jako budynek przeznaczony do sezonowego użytku przestrzeni zewnętrznych Muzeum.
The building of the Gwarek bathhouse (originally serving as the engine room of the Gruschka shaft) was constructed in a historicising style in 1903, with neo-Gothic and neo-Romanesque elements. It has richly decorated gable elevations. After the construction of a new engine room with a hoisting machine in 1952, the present building was converted into the so-called “Gwarek” bathhouse which functioned until the 1990s. The building is listed in the municipal register of monuments of the city of Katowice.
The drillers workshop is a small, one-story building adjacent to the north-eastern corner of the Gwarek bathhouse. The building was erected in 1910. It was probably used for keeping miners’ identity marks. In 1923, after the miners’ identity marks storeroom was moved to the workers’ bathhouse, it was converted into a workshop at the engine room of the Gruschka (nowadays Gwarek) shaft.
As part of the project, the revitalized objects will serve new functions, those of a museum and educational facility, while maintaining as many existing elements as possible, determining the post-industrial character of the building. The bathhouse building will be used as a study warehouse for exhibits related to the history of industry and military wares, including the steam engine from the Baildon Steelworks and the electric hoisting machine KWK Rydułtowy, which will be available to visitors. The building will also include an office zone, as well as sanitary and technical rooms. Storage and exhibition of the collection will be possible on the ground floor, basement and two additional levels, which will be the designed mezzanines. Due to the large size and weight of the exhibits kept in the building, it is planned to install an industrial crane for transporting them. The drillers workshop will be used as a building intended for seasonal use of the external spaces of the Museum.
